The main reason for the Tawhid-adherents' leaning towards the BNP is the failure and self-destructive behavior of Jamaat-Shibir.
This is not the result of any ideological closeness, but rather the direct consequence of Jamaat-Shibir's ruthless insults, obscene attacks, and pushing their own brothers into the face of the enemy.
When Jamaat-Shibir starts firing arrows like 'militant', 'extremist', 'fundamentalist', and 'Khariji' at their Tawhid-adherent brothers, that strike is not just personal, it deeply wounds the entire Tawhid-adherent consciousness. From this wound, anger is born. And that anger forces them to lean towards the BNP. Ideologically, Jamaat's position should have been closer to the Tawhid-adherents. But Jamaat itself destroyed that closeness.
Those who think that Tawhid-adherents want to protect themselves by licking the boots of those in power or wearing the mask of civil society are mistaken. If that were the case, they could have also colluded with the Awami League. But they did not do so. The only reason for leaning towards the BNP is the unnecessary hostility and cruelty of Jamaat-Shibir. When one's own brother is considered an enemy and pushed away, the opponent takes advantage of that opportunity and pulls him close; this is political reality. There is shame in this for the Tawhid-adherents too, but the ultimate shame is for Jamaat-Shibir.
Jamaat-Shibir could never understand the pulse of non-democratic Islamists. They could not in the past, they cannot today, and they will not be able to in the future. They unnecessarily increase their enemies, alienate their own brothers, and continuously weaken their own position. Today, the head of the government meets with the Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam, yet Jamaat-Shibir people attack that very Amir with obscene language. Consequently, when Hefazat leans towards the BNP, Jamaat has no moral basis to express anger. When you throw away your friend thinking he is an enemy, it is natural for your opponent to strategically pull him close.
This self-destructive policy of Jamaat-Shibir is harmful not only to the Tawhid-adherents but to the entire Islamic movement. They are turning potential allies into enemies with their arrogance and narrow-mindedness, and then blaming others for that hostility. If they continue on this path, Jamaat-Shibir will not only alienate and weaken the Tawhid-adherents but also themselves continuously.
